TOP ATTRACTION! How I surprised my partner (who's afraid of heights) with parasailing in Tenerife!

Updated: Mar 4, 2021

My partner is desperately afraid of heights but has often said he's always wanted to try parasailing so while visiting the beautiful island of Tenerife, I decided to surprise him and get it all on tape! (Do people still say 'tape' anymore?)

I found a company called AJ FLY Parascending which is based in Costa Adeje harbour and only a short taxi ride from Playa de las Americas (approx €5 fare).

Now if you've ever visited Spain or any of the Canary Islands, you'll already know that "service" is a term that used loosely by the Spanish and often the little details go unexplained. This experience was no exception.

We arrived, there was really no direction given. We didn't really know where to go so we just waited around. Eventually someone told us where to go and we followed.

This is where things get a little complicated.

When I booked online, there were two packages, a single occupancy and a double occupancy package.

I ended up buying two single packages so we'd each get our own jet ski but wanted to experience the parasailing together. I was under the impression that they would give us each 10 mins for a total of 20 mins of parasailing. I was wrong. We were up for a total of 10 minutes despite paying for two single packages.

You'd think that they'd compromise and give us 15 minutes but no. There were only 2 other couples so it's not like the boat was at capacity.

At the end of the day, it wasn't a big deal but considering we're already out there, an extra 5 minutes of sailing time isn't expecting too much.

After the parasailing was finished we had approx 40 minutes before the jet skis so we went to the boardwalk and enjoyed an ice cold cerveza.

The jet ski portion of the activity was fairly straight forward. We boarded our water crafts, were led out to the sea and buzzed around the coastline for 40 minutes.

All in all, the whole activity was great craic and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a bit of adventure.

*TRAVEL TIP* If you're staying in a resort that offers massage services, book yourself and upper body and forearm massage for when you return. The jet skis are pretty rough on your forearms if you're not used to it!

COST:

The total cost of this adventurous and fun afternoon came to €144 (cervezas not incl.)
